CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of South Korea’s leading cinema chain CJ CGV, has successfully signed a deal to export its panoramic cinema technology, ScreenX—further accelerating its global expansion in the premium cinema format market.

On June 23 (local time), CJ 4DPLEX announced that it had signed an agreement with EVT, the parent company of Event Cinemas—the largest cinema chain in Australia and New Zealand—to install ScreenX in six theaters.

EVT currently operates 76 Event Cinemas across Australia and New Zealand, and also owns 44 CineStar theaters in Germany.

ScreenX is one of CJ 4DPLEX’s signature premium formats, alongside 4DX. The technology expands selected scenes of a film onto the side walls of the auditorium, offering audiences an immersive 270-degree panoramic viewing experience.

With this latest agreement, EVT plans to introduce and expand ScreenX theaters across Australia, New Zealand, and Germany. The new locations are expected to open during the 2025 Christmas season.

CJ 4DPLEX already operates seven 4DX theaters and two ScreenX theaters in Australia. ScreenX has received a strong positive response from local audiences since its launch.

“This agreement highlights the growing demand for innovative cinema experiences,” said Don Savant, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX America. “We look forward to bringing our premium formats to more moviegoers across Australia, New Zealand, and Germany.”

EVT is pursuing a strategy to lead in premium cinema experiences, working in partnership with CJ 4DPLEX to expand high-end screening formats across its global network.
