Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong Meets Mukesh Ambani to Expand AI, Semiconductor and Telecom Collaboration

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong met Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, in Seoul to discuss broader collaboration in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and advanced telecom technologies, the company said Monday.

Samsung hosted Ambani at its Seocho headquarters on Nov. 25, where executives from Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung Engineering & Construction, Samsung Heavy Industries, Samsung E&A, and Samsung Human Resources Development Center presented the company’s latest projects in AI, extended reality (XR), foundry manufacturing, AI data centers, next-generation communications, future display technologies, cloud services, batteries and energy-storage systems (ESS), and large-scale plant engineering.

Ambani also viewed and tested several of Samsung’s newest technologies, including Galaxy XR hardware and micro-RGB display modules, according to Samsung.
Following the briefing, Lee hosted a private dinner with senior Samsung executives — including Roh Tae-moon, President of Samsung Mobile eXperience; Kim Woo-joon, Head of the Networks Business; Choi Joo-sun, President and CEO of Samsung SDI; Lee Joon-hee, President of Samsung SDS; and others — to discuss opportunities for expanded strategic partnership.

Ambani arrived in Seoul earlier that day via Gimpo Airport’s business aviation terminal.

With an estimated net worth of $116 billion, Ambani is India’s wealthiest individual. Reliance Industries, India’s largest private-sector conglomerate, has been accelerating its shift toward digital and deep-tech sectors, including plans to build one of the world’s largest AI data centers as it expands beyond petrochemicals and retail into ICT, cloud, and AI infrastructure.

As Reliance strengthens its technology business, analysts say it is becoming an increasingly important strategic partner for Samsung in India, a key growth market for the South Korean tech giant.

Samsung plans to deepen cooperation with Reliance in 6G network equipment, AI-optimized data center deployment, and battery-based ESS systems to stabilize power supply for large-scale infrastructure.

Lee and Ambani have maintained a long-standing personal relationship. Lee attended the weddings of all three of Ambani’s children — in 2018, 2019, and July 2024 — making him the only South Korean business leader invited to all three events.

Samsung’s ties with Reliance date back to the era of the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee. The two companies expanded cooperation in 2012 through a 4G network deployment for Reliance Jio, and in December 2022, Samsung secured a contract to supply 5G radio access network equipment.
