Shilla Duty Free reported on Thursday that it welcomed Chinese group tourists arriving via cruise on the first day visa-free entry was allowed, September 29.

The passengers, aboard the Tianjin Dongfang International Cruise’s “Dream” ship making its inaugural stop at Incheon Port, are scheduled to visit Shilla Duty Free’s Seoul location on September 29.

Shilla Duty Free is offering the visitors promotions including popular Chinese cosmetic brands at discounts of up to 60%, along with complimentary gifts. The company is also providing a “Gold Pass” to allow the tourists to access Gold-tier membership benefits.

“Starting with this visit, we expect a significant number of group tourists to follow,” a Shilla Duty Free spokesperson said. “We are fully preparing by enhancing the shopping environment and strengthening marketing activities.”

The initiative comes as South Korea aims to boost tourism by easing visa restrictions for Chinese travelers, with retailers positioning themselves to capture increased spending from inbound tourists.
