Hyeok-jae Lee, head of North America at LG Energy Solution, will open the main program at the Automotive News Congress in Detroit on September 11 with a keynote session on electric vehicle (EV) investment strategy.

The two-day summit, set for September 10–11, will gather top global auto executives to discuss the industry’s transformation.

Lee will join Elaine Buckberg, Senior Fellow at Harvard University’s Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability, for a 40-minute discussion titled “Optimizing EV Investments: Repurposing Capital in a Changing Market.”

Moderated by Hannah Lutz, Executive Editor for Tech and Innovation at Automotive News, the session will focus on how automakers can manage financial risks, reallocate capital, and maintain momentum in technology and cost efficiency during the shift to EVs.

A veteran in strategy and corporate leadership, Lee has led LG Energy Solution’s North American operations since 2022.

His career includes stints at consulting firms Kearney and Boston Consulting Group, founding the startup ZING.com in 1996, and executive roles at LG Electronics, SK Innovation, SK Continental E-motion, and Continental’s Korean and North American divisions.

The Congress will also feature Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung, who will participate in a fireside chat with Automotive News Publisher KC Crain.

Other keynote speakers include General Motors Chair Mary Barra and Asbury Automotive Group CEO David Hult.

This year’s event, themed “Innovation and Transformation in the Global Auto Industry,” will cover topics such as EV investment and production, global trade dynamics, vehicle sales forecasts, and evolving automaker profit models.
