South Korean singer and actress IU donated about $75,000 to support children and teenagers in need, marking Children’s Day on May 5 local time, her agency said.
EDAM Entertainment said the donation was made under the name “IUAENA,” a combination of the artist’s name and her fan club, Uaena. The funds will be used to provide practical support for children and adolescents.
The donation was split evenly between the Korea Association of Child Welfare and the National Council of Regional Children’s Centers, with each receiving about $37,500.
The organizations said the funds will be used to cover supplies and medical expenses for children in welfare facilities, as well as birthday gifts and cultural experiences for those attending local children’s centers.
IU has established a pattern of regular charitable giving, making donations under the “IUAENA” name on significant dates such as her debut anniversary, her birthday and year-end holidays.
In recent years, she has made larger contributions, including about $150,000 at the end of last year. She also donated roughly $150,000 in March to support wildfire recovery efforts and improve conditions for firefighters in southeastern South Korea, as well as about $110,000 on Children’s Day last year.
IU is currently appearing in an Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation drama, continuing her work in television alongside her music career.
