LG Electronics is partnering with French quantum computing company Pasqal to jointly develop quantum algorithms aimed at solving complex industrial problems and driving technological innovation.

The South Korean tech giant said the collaboration will focus on applying quantum computing to product design, materials discovery, and production optimization, with the goal of accelerating innovation and strengthening its global competitiveness.

Pasqal announced Thursday that LG Electronics has made a strategic equity investment in the company and entered into a joint R&D agreement. The two firms will collaborate on multi-physics simulations, optimization challenges, and advanced materials research using quantum computing. They also plan to co-develop core components and modules for neutral-atom-based quantum computers to speed up industrial adoption and supply chain development.

The partnership marks a significant step toward bringing neutral-atom quantum technology into real-world industrial applications. Unlike superconducting quantum systems that require ultra-low temperatures, neutral-atom quantum computers can operate at room temperature, offering a more cost-effective and scalable solution for industrial use.

For LG, the collaboration could enhance design efficiency, materials innovation, and manufacturing optimization, while laying the groundwork for deeper integration of AI, semiconductors, and next-generation materials with quantum technologies.

The companies said the joint initiative is expected to accelerate the commercialization of industrial quantum computing, helping both firms secure leading positions in the global quantum value chain through the co-development of quantum algorithms and hardware. LG Electronics aims to leverage the partnership to bolster its technological competitiveness and deploy quantum-driven solutions across multiple industries.

Founded in 2019 by researchers from France’s Institut d’Optique, Pasqal develops quantum processors that use 2D and 3D arrays of neutral atoms. The company has formed partnerships with global players including IBM, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Google, and successfully demonstrated a 1,000-qubit system last year, showcasing the potential for large-scale industrial quantum computing.

“This partnership with LG Electronics represents a powerful convergence of quantum science and industrial expertise,” said Loïc Henriet, CEO of Pasqal. “Together, we’ll accelerate the development of real-world applications and tackle large-scale industrial challenges through quantum computing.”

Kim Sung-hyuk, Senior Research Fellow at LG Electronics’ AI Research Lab, added, “LG is constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation. By investing in and collaborating with Pasqal, we’re positioning ourselves at the forefront of the quantum computing revolution.”
